Police investigating the murder of a man in Belfast city centre have made a fresh appeal for information about the attack. Christopher Mackin, a 31-year-old known to police, is thought to have been shot up to four times during the incident at College Square North on Thursday night. Police are asking for information in relation to a car that may have been involved. It was a silver Renault Clio, registration number ELZ 7444. The car was seen in the Divis Street and College Square North areas at about 21:20 GMT on Thursday, the time of the murder. The car was later found burnt out in Wyndham Street, off the Cliftonville Road in north Belfast. It is thought the Renault Clio had been in the Belfast area for the last few weeks and sightings have been reported at a car park at Candahar Lodge on the Ormeau Road. A man and woman who were arrested in connection with the murder of Mr Mackin remain in custody. Police do not believe there was any paramilitary involvement in the murder. They said Mr Mackin has a child and lived with his mother close to where he was shot. Mr Mackin was conscious when the emergency services arrived, but died an hour later in the Royal Victoria Hospital. Earlier in the week, Det Chief Insp John McVea said the PSNI were not looking at any of Mr Mackin's "previous involvement with police as the motive for this murder". "This is an unusual event in this area and I think the motive lies more in close associations with Christopher Mackin and I don't think it involves any of his previous criminal activity," he added.
